Wow. I must have fallen into the holiday vortex and totally dropped the ball on this blog. Weak sauce indeed. Since its so close to '09, I might as well wait till then to do more posting. So for now, heres a couple throw back clips.
Had to watch the full part after seeing clips on Epicly Later'd...Bobby Puleo from FTC - Penal Code 100A.
I don't remember what 411 issue this was from, but the french rap I remember being stoked on. JB Gillet's "Rookies" part.

1FS Around the World: C
Moving right along...C brings us to the Czech Republic, Cuba and China.
Petr Horvat is Czech. This is from the video called "A Nomads Point of View".
Cuba is awesome. I hope to visit there in the near future. As ghetto as it looks, that fountain spot in Havana looks super fun. Peep this video by Red Bull showing some of Cuba's scene.
The Cuban scene is a difficult one...as is most anything in Cuba. A guy in Britain has been helping the scene out as much as he can. Peep the short doc he did...Here
Now my Chinese; whether it be Cantonese or Mandarin isn't exactly on point...I actually speak a small local dialect from Inner Mongolia. Anyways...This is a team promo from a Chinese company called Gift.

1FS Around the World: B
Heres "B". Today I've picked the countries of Belgium, Brazil and Bulgaria
Heres Lionel Krup from Belgium. I gather its from a company called Homemade, and its from 2004.
Skateboarding is gigantic in Brazil, and I have a hard time deciding which Brazilian is my fave. There are many that seem to come and go. I did find a promo for a new video from a company called Quantica. Its new, so doubt many will have seen it.
I have found that some countries have a very young skate scene. Bulgaria must be one of those. I found some stuff...most notably a Blueprint tour of Bulgaria. But I want to profile locals. So here is a bunch of Bulagarian kids doing their thing.

1FS Around the World: A
So I'm in blog mode again. In celebration of that I have decided to do a new section showing some international skateboarding. A lot of this stuff gets over looked; and 8that sucks. I'll try my best to go through the alphabet and post some skaters from different countries. Unless its impossible...X and Z come to mind.
Today we start with the letter A.
Chris Pfanner is from Austria, and he is on Anti Hero.
Chima Ferguson is from Australia...This is his part from Volcom's "Lets Live".
Argentina is a little tougher, I could just post a Butcher clip, but thats too easy. Here is a dude named Paris Laurenti...Nothing amazing or anything but he skates to the Smiths...and well, you know.
*I actually just re-watched this...This kid has a rad "who gives a shit" style. Down
And here is a little ESPN clip about skateboarding in Buenos Aires.

Back at you!! Random Saturday posting. I'll try to make an effort to post more. Promise. Anyways, Blind posted a 2 and a half minute trailer for their new video...Looks sick.
Also I don't think I've ever mentioned this site...Boil The Ocean. Its a well written blog about skateboarding. You'll like it. Jon recommended that I should put it on the links tab to the right. So I did. Swoop dat.

And a few of his classic parts from over the years. Gino rules...deal with it. I also am still betting on him having at least a shared part in the Chocolate video. Fingers crossed.

Agency Field Report
I know, totally out of the blue with a post. Anyway, Stereo posted up their new video over here.Pretty sick parts from Dyson Ramones and Zach Wagner. There is also an opening montage featuring the rest of the team, and although I was bummed to not see any Jason Lee footy, there is some Carl Shipman footy, which was rad.
Actually I just re-watched Dyson Ramones part...Amazing, one of the better parts out this year. Go watch it.

Sad news from the DLX camp. Skateboarding has lost Van Wastell. He was 24. One of the few younger dudes that wasn't just like all the others. He will be missed I'm sure. Definitely bummed to read this when I woke up this morning.

1FS Throwback Clip #25
411 Issues 6-25 are gold to me, they were the cheapest and newest videos readily available. This era also seems to be when the content was at it highest quality. There weren't hundreds of board and shoe companies, so a lot of skaters were eager to get their newest footage out to the masses and 411 was doing that. Here is a young Rodney Torres and his Wheels of Fortune from issue 14. It should also be noted that I credit 411 for introducing me to the Infamous Mobb Deep, as they put at least one song in every issue for quite a while.

1FS Throwback Clip #24
Mike Santarossa from the Prime video circa 1995. This part isn't amazing or anything, and it wasn't 13 years ago. The reason it gets the throwback clip is because he skates to Moon Dance. Also Mike seems to be rocking my exact kit from 1995.

Penny for your thoughts
I can't believe that Transworld's Anthology video was 8 years ago. Time flies. Anyways, The Chrome Ball Incident is a rad site dedicated to nostalgia from my golden era which is the 90s. They just posted up a piece on Tom Penny and linked this clip. I was amazed when I saw some photos of the tricks in like 95-96 when it actually went down. But it made it so much sicker hearing Dyrdek describe how the session went down 4-5 years later, now 12-13 years later.

1FS Musical Throwback??
I seriously want to do 1FS Musical Throwbacks, but not this one. The track is whatever, but the video is awesome, it looks like they hired both SWV and Jodeci's stylists. So perfect...BTW this is a brand new song.
DC Nationals Qualifier July 26th
that little ass logo is all I could scrounge, but its just a reminder that the DC Nationals Atlantic qualifier is this Saturday, at the Commons Park starting at 12:00pm. Mark Regimbal of the Berrics fame and I will be hosting it. I'm going to try my hand at MCing it. Nacho's shoes will be pretty hard to fill though...but I shall try.

Reynolds Lights
I've been on a serious Emerica tilt as of late. One of the pairs I've had the pleasure of wearing are the Reynolds Lights which are profiled in this video. The technology is what makes this shoe work. Super lightweight space age materials make this shoe one of the lightest I've ever wore. After rocking vulc for the last year and half almost exclusively, I was ready to try something different, so I rolled these, they are working well and are...still rolling.

The Return of the Raunch.
Back in the day, the skate worlds parents were shocked and appalled by graphics like the 1992 Randy Colvin World Industries deck pictured below.
Pretty awesome seeing that as an adolescent. Lately there has been some nice smut making its way back onto the bottoms of decks, first the Baker Romero "Cheese Spread". Photo via Burnout
And now DGK gets in there with these:
Whats next? Gotta be someone out there with a good sense of humour that can one up the previous efforts.

Skate Mental Press Release
I just got an email with the following Press Release:
Skate Mental L.L.C
6.9.08
After a retarded amount of beer, Skate Mental finally got a good enough buzz to put Nate Broussard on the team. Fighting the curse of the man am, Nate will be filming for the new Skate Mental promo due early september. "Hopefully he gets some good stuff so we don't have to kick him off," says brand manager Brad Staba. Not really much else to say besides skate mental is the best company known to man. All other companies should be sad and lose sleep at night knowing they will never be as good as Skate Mental. Just kidding...or am I?
Thanks,
Cool, Heres a couple of his parts via Youtube.

1FS Throwback Clip(s) # 21
The year was 1995, skateboarding was not yet the full blown marketing phenomenon that it is now. Surprisingly the most "core" shoe company at the time was Etnies, and their team was stacked. This is High 5 in 3 sections, if you only have time for one, watch the 3rd one and wait for Tom Penny's part at the end, short and sweet, but this era is why Tom Penny can still make a living off of skateboarding today...the style, the tricks, the gear...every 14-20 year old wanted to be him...oh the days.

I know I've been slack ass with the posting...and its not like I ever bring hard hitting news to the masses. I don't think its my job...so many people do it so much better. Big news it big news though and I can't resist sometimes. Soooo Mr. Saari is now in the Sect. I was kind of surprised to see that. Also there is some news starting to leak from the Gravis camp too. The skate division is launching soon..heres the team run down I was told:
1. Arto Saari
2. Dylan Reider
3. TBA
4. TBA
Europe
1. Steve Forstner
2. Javier Mendizabel
I knew this was how it would look. I guess another name is to be announced soon...and he might be Australian.

1FS Sneak Check #3
Sorry for slacking on the posting. Its been so nice out, so I've been trying to enjoy it to the max. Anyways this weeks Sneak Check is all about the 1st Marc Johnson pro model shoe by Emerica. I don't have a whole lot to say, but they were a rad shoe at the time. They launched right about the time A-Team started, and he had left Maple, if can remember correctly. I have posted Marc's part from Modus Operandi, which came out a couple years later, but he is wearing them in it. They made them for a few years I think.

1FS Sneak Check #2
This week I'm going with Dukes J-Dubs. Sorry for the crappy photo, its all I could find...I must get a scanner soon. In the late 90s I went through a serious Jeremy Wray fan phase. I still am a fan, and think his F/S 360s are the sickest in all of skateboarding. These shoes were part and parcel with Jeremy in that era. I had a blue pair that disintegrated in around a week, but loved them anyway.
The Revolution was only an OK video, but I killed this part. Hes rocking the J-Dubs in most of it.
Deathwish Promo
Deathwish is launching soon! It will be through the new Baker Boys distribution and Raj at Mehrathon is distributing it in Canada. The Promo will be released at around the same time. Proskates is going to carry it, so get ready.

¡Viva Peru!
So only 3 weeks until I leave for vacation in Peru. I can't wait. I have been checking the internerd for some Peruvian skateboarding info. I didn't expect much, but I have to say that I was amazed with how sick the scene looks down there. A couple of the clips are of Daniel Suarez who looks to be the big up and comer in Lima. The other clip is a montage of some of the local rippers. It just goes to show how much of a worldwide base skateboarding has. Peru...here I come!

1FS Sneak Check #1
Its no secret that I'm a shoe nerd...I don't collect them, I just wear them and skate them, then get rid of them, thats what they're for. I decided to pay homage to some of my favorite kicks over the years and try to wax nostalgic on skateboarding footwear.
The 1st shoe is the short lived Vans Carroll, which I owned a pair of, in this exact colourway, in 96 if I can remember correctly. This was an awesome shoe: Thick tongues, speed laces, pull loop in the back so your pants won't drag. Basically it had all the cool shit for the day with a Vans vulc sole to boot. I wish Vans or Lakai could work some magic and get a re-issue on these. On second thought...maybe not yet.
